Hamden, CT — September 27, 2010 — RxGen, a specialty preclinical contract research organization, announced today that its research facilities have received full accreditation from the Association for Assessment and Accreditation of Laboratory Animal Care (AAALAC) International.
RxGen’s research facilities are housed at the St. Kiits Biomedical Research Foundation (SKBRF) in St. Kitts, West Indies, a long-standing preclinical research facility supporting central nervous system research for philanthropic and NIH funded projects. RxGen has been the exclusive commercial partner to St. Kitts Biomedical Research Foundation since RxGen’s inception in 2002, with the collective mission to develop and commercialize enhanced research models to improve clinical outcomes. Over the last five years, RxGen has invested heavily in the development and optimization of non-human primate models to hasten the development and translation of promising medical innovations, with SKBRF providing the necessary animal husbandry and related support capabilities required to carry out preclinical studies.
Following AAALAC review the inspector and President of the Council on Accreditation, Dorcas P. O’Rourke, D.V.M., M.S., commented “The management and staff are highly commended for providing and maintaining exemplary facilities and programs for the care and use of laboratory animals. Especially noteworthy were the engaged Institutional Official, who was committed to maintaining an excellent animal care and use program, the outstanding knowledge and dedication of the animal care staff . . . the spirit of collegiality and fluid interaction among the researchers, veterinary staff, and all animal facility personnel; and the exceptionally clean and well maintained facilities.”
“RxGen and SKBRF have always placed an extremely high value on laboratory animal care and well-being. The AAALAC accreditation provides additional validation that RxGen and SKBRF are serious about setting, achieving, and maintaining high standards for our animal research programs”, comments Matthew Lawrence, RxGen’s CEO.
